Christian Mansell keeps himself firmly in title contention on his return to Euroformula Open at Imola

After a lengthy summer break from Euroformula Open where the Australian driver enjoyed a double outing in FIA Formula 3 with Charouz Racing, Christian was back in action at Imola. Where he secured himself two podium finishes over the weekend to keep himself firmly in the title contention going into the last 3 rounds of the championship.

In the first race of the weekend, The BRDC Rising Star managed the tyres throughout to secure a third place finish from the second row of the grid. The second race proved a bit more eventful, with his sights set on a potential fourth win of the season, an unfortunate touch from Mason’s front wing at the Tamburello Chicane forced Christian to pit for a replacement tyre. He emerged in seventh, but charged back and completed a recovery to fifth place with a last-lap pass.

In the final race of the weekend, the 17-year-old racer started fourth on the grid. With a good start he moved up to third place by turn one and began to gain ground to be withing attacking distance of Lubin by the halfway stage of the race. In the penultimate lap, Christian took his opportunity with a superb lunge on the inside of Lubin to seal second place and his second trip to the podium.

Christian Mansell commented:

"Another new circuit for me, and it's been a great experience to race around Imola. After a couple of new experiences in FIA F3, we quickly got back into the swing of things once we hit the track on Friday. In qualifying we were well in the mix all the way through and the track really got faster as it went on. We came close, but it was a sign we had good speed for the races.

The first race had a good ending with another podium finish to keep us ticking on getting the points we needed. We had a really tough break in the next race with the puncture after taking the dive for the lead which so nearly went to plan, but we got our heads down for race three and gave it everything to find a way through, which we managed with a bit of bravery!

More good points and another quick turnaround, so I'm happy with our performance and hopefully we can come back strongly this weekend in Austria."

Harry Soden – Director Infinity Sports Management adds:

"Another solid result for Christian with two podiums this weekend. Entering the last 3 rounds, Christian has fully kept himself in the hunt for the Championship and we are looking forward to an exciting end to the season."

Christian Mansell travels to the Red Bull Ring in Austria this coming weekend (10/11 September) for the next three races of the Euroformula Open season.
